Media is described as a vortex where you can either sink or swim. Also encompasses the idea to survive one must jump in the vortex. To survive media one must become a part of media to recognize the way out.
Art Enhances : The idea of everyday objects enhancing our bodies. Ex. A fork / knife. This idea also extends to language being used as a tool.
Every time we enhance our humanness we gain hubris. Ex. I have a lot of friends on Facebook therefore I am an important person.
With the advent of literacy we began to specialize. Due to human specialists we began to marginalize. The more we specialize the more we get compartmentalized. When we get compartmentalized we become protectionists. To obtain great art and/or have an enriching life we should use many disciplines despite out expertise.
Ancient Greek methodology of Language / Presentation / Logic
Trust the consensus of your senses.
Advertising, in the electric world, creates a false reality.
The Reverse Effect : The faster we physically move the less mobility we have. Ex. Walking vs Flying.
The more we travel the less we see. Ex. Business people who travel all the time but may only see the airport and a few hotels.
The more online friends we have the less we know of our connections. Ex. Having 3,000+ on Facebook and the stream going by so fast that you actually don’t get to know anyone.
Television needs it’s programming to be casual to function in our lives.
